Why won't my Asus laptop start anymore ?

Have you ever had a laptop that didn't turn on from one day to the next? Do you feel stressed because you're afraid that all your precious data will be lost, and you don't know what the problem is?

Don't panic, there can be many reasons why your laptop won't boot up. In this article we will go through them so that you can identify the problem and fix your notebook as quickly as possible.

Check the electrical connections

First of all, it is important to check whether the laptop is properly connected to the power supply, either the wall socket or the laptop's power connector.... An incorrectly connected cable can be enough to prevent a computer from starting up. You can also feel your laptop: if it feels warm, it’s not a good sign and a component must have overheated and caused the failure.

You can also test the connection to a different power outlet, as it is not uncommon for the current intensity to be too low at one outlet (for various reasons) and therefore no longer provide the power supply needed to turn on the laptop.

Hardware malfunction

Let's get down to business! A hardware malfunction may be the cause of the startup lock. Most often, dust can prevent a fan from rotating; if this is the case, the system will prevent the computer from booting up. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to use an air bomb once or twice a month on fans, trapdoors and other connections.

Battery or charger problem

The problem can also be caused by an out of order or discharged battery or an out of order charger. In order to properly diagnose the problem, turn on the PC with the charger on: if the PC turns on, the problem does not come from it.

This certainly means that the charger is out or that the pin of the power connector is broken and no longer makes contact with the plug. Don’t worry, both are replaceable.

If the charger works, you can proceed to recharge the battery (it is essential to respect the charging cycles). If the battery does not charge, it may be incorrectly clipped or incorrectly plugged into its compartment or it may unfortunately also be out of order.

Problem witha a device or motherboard

Another problem you may encounter may be a missing peripheral, such as a RAM stick that is not compatible with your system or a secondary hard drive that conflicts with the main hard drive. It is therefore recommended that you unplug everything and plug these devices back in one by one to find out who is the culprit.

Another much more serious problem that can jeopardize the repair of a laptop is a defective motherboard. The motherboard is the central part of the computer, the part that makes everything work. If the motherboard is out of order, then changing it is inevitable... But the price of a motherboard is often equivalent to the price of the computer itself. When this problem occurs, the most common solution is to replace the laptop.

Virus infection

It is possible that your computer was infected by a malicious virus that paralyzes it. To solve this problem, you can use a cleaning program installed on a backup USB stick. Once the software is installed on the flash drive, it should start automatically, which will either run an automatic scan to remove the blocking virus or allow a safe boot to identify the virus.

Once this process is established, restart your computer in safe mode (at power up, press the F8 key several times and select "safe mode"). This will allow you to start Windows with only the programs needed to start the operating system. If this works, you will be able to eliminate all the hardware problems and focus on getting rid of the virus.

If after all these investigations you still can't find the cause of the failure, it's best to call a computer professional who can give you a complete diagnosis and find the problem.
