RECOGNIZING THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF POWER CONNECTORS

Before you decide to change a power connector on your laptop, you should know how to recognize the different types.

There are 3 types of power connectors (DC Power):

1. The power connector integrated into the motherboard
2. The power connector built into the daughter board
3. The independent power connector linked to the motherboard by a cable

1. THE POWER CONNECTOR INTEGRATED INTO THE MOTHERBOARD

It is possible to replace this connector but the operation is quite delicate and we advise you to have it done by an IT professional. The defective connector will need to be de-soldered removed and the new connector will need to be soldered in its place, this operation can degrade the motherboard if it is not done properly (poor soldering, damage to Motherboard ...).
Keep in mind that replacing a motherboard due to improper handling is much more costly than the price of a connector. The price of a motherboard is often equivalent to the price of a new computer depending on the model.

How to properly identify a power connector that is integrated into the motherboard

You will notice that all of the other connectors (USB, headphone, VGA ...) are next to each other.

2. THE CONNECTOR BUILT INTO THE DAUGHTERBOARD

If the connector is built into the daughterboard (card), you can change it following the same process used for a connector integrated into the motherboard(see above).

However, We strongly advise you, unless you are a professional, to replace the daughter card (the price varies between 10 and 20 euros). Since, the price of a new power connector plus the cost of the repair made by a professional will, in essence, be the same as changing out the daughter card which you can do yourself (just clip the new daughter card to your motherboard).

As you will note the VGA connector is next to the power connector, which means that the connector is integrated into the daughter board (card) which indicates that it is not integrated into the motherboard.

3. THE INDEPENDENT POWER CONNECTOR LINKED TO THE MOTHERBOARD BY A CABLE

If the power connector is separate and independent from the motherboard (or daughter board) it is screwed or clipped onto the chassis of the computer and connected to the motherboard by a connecting cable. You can easily replace it yourself.

Here's how to properly identify an independent power connector that is connected to the motherboard by a cable

You may notice that the connector sits alone on the right side of the chassis.

If your Asus laptop no longer holds its charge or does not turn on, it is strongly recommended that you call a computer repair professional to properly diagnose the problem as it is quite possible that the problem comes from elsewhere for example the charger or the battery.
